The story of Saint Therese of Lisieux is well known to Catholics, but her appeal is not limited to those of her own faith. She is a role model for anyone who seeks to live a life of love and service to others.

Saint Therese was born Marie Francoise Therese Martin in Alençon, France, on January 2, 1873. She was the youngest of five children of Louis and Zelie Martin. Her parents were devout Catholics, and they raised their children in the faith. Therese was a sickly child, and she often spent her days in bed. Despite her poor health, she was a cheerful and pious child. She loved to read about the lives of the saints, and she dreamed of becoming a missionary.

When Therese was 15 years old, she entered the Carmelite monastery in Lisieux. She took the name Therese of the Child Jesus and the Holy Face. She spent the rest of her life in the monastery, living a simple life of prayer and service to others. Therese died of tuberculosis on September 30, 1897, at the age of 24. She was canonized a saint by Pope Pius XI in 1925.

Saint Therese is known for her love of God and her devotion to the Holy Face of Jesus. She was also a great advocate for the missions. She wrote many letters to missionaries, and she prayed for their success. Saint Therese is a role model for all Christians who seek to live a life of love and service to others.
